Reservoir Simulation
Experimental Design For FDP Optimization

Customer Challenge

A promising exploration well has successfully identified the presence of light oil within a structure. However, the encountered reservoir exhibits poor properties, resulting in a low oil rate during testing. Recent seismic interpretation unveils that the exploration well lies on the edge of a promising facies reservoir, further complicated by the presence of identified faults. Analogous fields nearby share similar configurations, necessitating the crucial step of drilling an appraisal well to confirm and evaluate the reservoir’s potential. With significant drilling decisions on the horizon, a comprehensive evaluation of the field’s potential becomes imperative.

Solution

Drawing on all available information, including PVT and core plug data, along with dynamic insights from well tests, we construct a meticulous reservoir model. Our experts identify all uncertain parameters, encompassing reservoir quality and faults transmissibility, defining multiple possible outcomes. Our innovative approach involves crafting an experimental design, ensuring a rapid and precise assessment of the optimal Field Development Plan (FDP) strategy.

Outcome & Value Delivery

With a clear development strategy in place, the Field Development Plan thoughtfully accounts for the identified uncertain parameters. This holistic plan embraces all potential outcomes, diligently optimizing production and injection while preserving a positive net present value (NPV), even under the most pessimistic scenarios. Our meticulously optimized P90 cumulative production surpasses expectations, boasting an impressive 18% increase above the break-even NPV.
