Customer Challenge
Offshore Congo Brazzaville, an exploration well was drilled with two objectives to be evaluated. The reservoir’s tight environment and limited analogs data presented challenges in understanding its behavior during production. Despite a light oil discovery with favorable results from a mini-DST performed using the RDT tool, the reservoir’s production characteristics remained uncertain. To gain a comprehensive understanding and determine the commercial viability of the discovery, a well test in the tight reservoir environment was essential.
Solution
To address the challenges, we leveraged all available analog well data and acquired information to design a well test before the drilling phase. The well test aimed to not only prove the commerciality of the discovery but also to confirm the reservoir extension observed on seismic. The test sequence involved stimulation in the carbonated reservoir, and our expert team was present onboard the rig to supervise the entire operation.
Outcome & Value Delivery
The execution of the well test operations was highly effective, and adjustments were promptly made to accommodate operational constraints. The objectives of the well test were successfully achieved, confirming the extension of the discovery and validating its commercial potential. The data obtained from the well test played a crucial role as a history match parameter in the simulation model, aiding in the definition and sizing of the Field Development Plan. Notably, the stimulation increased the flow rate by an impressive 33% and the well PI by 120%, ultimately leading to the confirmation of a commercial discovery. The successful well test and subsequent data analysis delivered invaluable insights that contributed significantly to the strategic planning and development of the oilfield.
